The following tips will ensure you have a happy & healthy bunny:

  • Provide sizeable accommodation with the necessary living space for your rabbit to manoeuvre with ease and have suitable shelter from the elements.
  • Feed daily on a healthy diet of dry food and hay and include the appropriate green vegetables with the rabbit’s diet on a weekly basis.
  • Provide clean fresh water on a daily basis.
  • Allow your rabbit adequate outdoor exercise (weather permitting).
  • Clean out the rabbit’s hutch regularly with proper rabbit disinfectant sprays to prevent the spread of germs and diseases and provide fresh bedding, etc.
  • Gently handle and stroke your rabbit on a regular basis to allow him/her to get to know and feel comfortable with you.
  • Groom your rabbit regularly with an appropriate rabbit brush to eliminate loose/knotted fur and parasites.
  • Keep your rabbit away from any areas that have been treated with fertilizers, pesticides or any other chemicals that may be toxic.
  • Seek immediate advice from a vet as soon as your rabbit shows any different signs in its usual behaviour – rabbits are incredibly good at being able to hide serious illness until it is too late.
  • Annual claw/teeth checks, fly-strike treatment and vaccinations against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD) and Myxomatosis are recommended from 8 weeks onwards.
  • If not intended for breeding/showing, it is best to spay your doe between 4 months and 2 years of age to prevent uterine cancer which can often spread to other organs.
  • If not intended for breeding/showing, it is best to neuter your buck from the age of 4 months onwards to prevent unwanted litters and/or if he is demonstrating aggressive, destructive or territorial behaviour.

ENJOY!
